COLUMBUS, OH – The Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) seeks partnership with school leaders across the state for Ohio College Application Month 2016 (OCAM 2016) during the month of November. As part of the American College Application Campaign (ACAC) initiative, OCAM 2016 seeks to increase the number of Ohio high school seniors who apply to college, with a special emphasis on encouraging first-generation, low-income students and students who may not otherwise apply to college.
During OCAM 2016, students at participating high schools will be assisted as they complete college applications during the school day with the goal of each participating student submitting at least one postsecondary application. Students may apply to any of Ohio’s 23 community colleges, 14 public universities, 24 university regional branch campuses, 64 independent colleges, 120 adult education and workforce training centers, as well as colleges and universities outside Ohio.
During OCAM 2015, more than 2,000 students from 154 participating Ohio high schools and career technical centers submitted at least one postsecondary application. ODHE hopes to increase the number of students participating in OCAM 2016 to help support Ohio’s workforce needs and demands. According to a study by The Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, by 2018 60 percent of all jobs in Ohio will require postsecondary training beyond high school.
This ODHE initiative is supported by the Ohio Association of College Admissions Counselors, Ohio Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, Ohio College Access Network, American Council on Education, and the Ohio Department of Education.
