Portsmouth West High School announces its Students of the Month for September. The following students were nominated by teachers, administrators and/or guidance counselors and selected by a special committee: senior Deanna Shepherd, 17, daughter of Darin and Donna Shepherd; junior Emily Taylor, 16, daughter of Matt Taylor and Kitty Taylor; sophomore Kane Lewis, 15, son of Matthew and Shasta Lewis; and freshman Alicia Smith, 15, daughter of Joseph and Corinna Smith.
In its second year, the Student of the Month program was implemented to celebrate individual achievement by creating a culture of learning that values academic success, while also elevating awareness of student contributions to the Washington-Nile Local School District community. Nominees are selected based on the following criteria: academic performance, behavior, character, effort, social relationships, attendance, and student involvement in extra-curricular activities both in and out of the school setting.
“We are very proud of the young men and women who make up our student body here at Portsmouth West High School,” said Superintendent Jeff Stricklett. “Therefore, it is our honor to give them the recognition they deserve. The Student of the Month program is an excellent opportunity for us to spotlight those students who distinguish themselves.”
