SSU welcomes Global UGRAD-Pakistan students

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – Shawnee State University is pleased to welcome three new international students from the U.S. Department of State’s Global Undergraduate Exchange Program in Pakistan (Global UGRAD-Pakistan) for the 2015-16 academic year.

The Global UGRAD-Pakistan program allows the international students the opportunity to develop a broad and nuanced understanding of U.S. values through an exploration and integration of the U.S. culture, while allowing for developments in leadership opportunities by becoming citizen ambassadors to increase diplomatic and development partnerships.

In addition to their academic studies, Global UGRAD-Pakistan students will participate in performing community service and explore American traditions through the unique digital Cultural Passport to America program, which provides students with a framework for comprehensively exploring various aspects of American culture broadly and systematically.

Upon returning to their hometowns, Global UGRAD-Pakistan students will give presentations at local schools, Rotary clubs, elderly homes and other locations, about their experience and perspective regarding what they have learned about U.S. culture and values.

The Global UGRAD-Pakistan is a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the U.S. Department of State and is administered by the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX). The goal is to foster mutual understanding between people of the United States and the people of other countries to promote friendly and peaceful relations through a range of programs based on the benefits of mutual understanding, international educational and cultural exchange, and leadership development.
