PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – Shawnee State University’s Student Life is looking to add to its growing list of community service partners.
Community service partners allow large groups of SSU students the opportunity to volunteer their time while earning community service hours. Two of SSU’s most recognizable service events are the 9/11-Day of Service and Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.
Some of projects have included organizing items in storage closets, gathering food items for food pantries and visiting nursing homes. Service partners have asked SSU to provide students to assist in painting porches or walls, pick up trash, and clean up flowerbeds and clear trails.
Some of SSU’s community service partners include Sierra’s Haven, Shawnee State Park, Bonyfiddle Art Center, Scioto County Homeless Shelter, Hillview Retirement Center, American Cancer Society and many more.
Student Life is looking to grow its list of community service partners for students who are looking for volunteer opportunities on an individual basis and large community service events such as the 9/11- Day of Service.
“The goal is to have a variety of community service partners for the students to choose from that are in their area of interest,” said Tiffany Hartman, Director of Student Life.
