COLUMBUS—State Representative Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) today joined State Senator Bob Peterson (R-Sabina), State Senator Joe Uecker (R-Miami Township), State Representative Ryan Smith (R-Bidwell), the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, higher education leaders and others to announce plans for the new Higher Education Regional Partnership and Training Center. The leaders held a press conference at the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce this morning to discuss the initiative, which is intended to bring job training and accreditation programs to the area.
Ohio University Southern, Shawnee State University, University of Rio Grande, Southern State Community College, Ohio Strategic Training Center and the Lawrence Economic Development Corporation will partner to form the training center, which will be coordinated through Ohio University Southern in Ironton.
“Economic development is the key to helping our region grow,” said Johnson. “We must continue to work together to make improvements. With this collaboration, more vocational needs are going to be met in a way that has not happened before. This is an exciting turning point. My thoughts and prayers are with this initiative and I have full faith this will be beneficial to our region for years to come.”
The partnership will focus on improving job growth in manufacturing, logistics and health care in Southern Ohio by supporting technical degree and training programs in Lawrence County and the surrounding areas.
