Southern Ohio Medical Center recently announced the appointment of Tom Reiser and Becky Thiel to the SOMC Board of Directors. Their terms, which began July 1, will remain effective through June 2018.
A West Portsmouth native, Reiser served in public education for more than 50 years. He retired from Shawnee State University in 2014, where he worked as the director of Ohio South Tech Prep and as an internship coordinator. Prior to that, he served 25 years with the Scioto County Joint Vocational School, holding positions as a co-op coordinator, employment coordinator, vocational director, and superintendent. He served as the Scioto County Commissioner from 2001-2012.
Reiser is president of the Scioto Portsmouth Visitors and Convention Bureau, chairman of the Buckeye Association of School Administrators, the Ohio Associate of JVS Superintendents, and the County Risk Sharing Authority, and is a member of Friendship United Methodist Church.
Thiel is currently the acting associate provost and a professor of Nursing at Shawnee State University. With more than 30 years of nursing-education experience at the college, she previously served as an instructor, an assistant professor, a program coordinator, an interim baccalaureate program leader, and chair for the Department of Nursing.
Thiel is secretary for the Ohio League for Nursing Board of Directors and continuing education reviewer for the Ohio Nurses’ Association. She is also a member of the Southern Ohio District Nurses Association, the Minford Board of Education, SOMC’s Research Committee, and a volunteer for countless other community programs.
