Haunted Carnival benefits DWOS

The Walker’s Haunted Carnival can be full of some surprises

Looking for some haunts to haunt this Halloween season? Well, get ready for an evening you won’t forget. It’s the Haunted Carnival Halloween Party, Oct. 29 in Wheelersburg, staged by Dr. Jerod Walker and his wife Stacey, who will also be dance partners in Dancing With our Stars 2017.

“My wife and I throw an annual Halloween party,” Dr. Walker said. “What better way to raise money for the Red Cross than to expand on our past Halloween events? This year we will present our new theme, The Haunted Carnical, which will feature slide shows including fortune teller, magicians, dancing and music all under the big top tent.”

Nikki Blankenship of Nikki and Nissa’s Fabulous Freaks will provide a few, shall we say, unusual characters for the event.

“We provide sideshow acts, so we’ll be providing Stiltswalkers, jugglers and firebreathers and firetwirlers and all those fun old sideshow acts,” Blanksenship said. “We’re even bringing in a human pin head hopefully.”

Walker said the event is, first and foremost a Halloween party for people 21 and older.

“Costumes are encouraged because there is a costume contest later on in the night,” Walker said. “There will be a deejay, dancing, a high-end silent auction, with items like a Kitchenaid mixer, TV, camping supplies, lots of donations from businesses around the area.”

Walker said the event will be right on the Ohio River at Wheelersburg. Directions to the event are with the tickets. Tickets for the event are $30 per person or $50 per couple. Private tables for ten are available to be reserved for $500, and include prime seating, two bottles of wine and circus party favors. Reserved tables are perfect for a group or business outing. Ticket purchases include hors d’oeuvres catered by Big Daddy’s Kitchen. Music is provided by Melanie Porter, entry into the costume contest, access to the silent auction and a cash bar. Tickets will not be available at the event.

The event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29. at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at Eventbrite.com or by stopping by KDMC’s Wheelersburg Family Care Center. All proceeds go to the local Ohio River Valley American Red Cross which provides service to Scioto, Pike, Jackson, Lawrence, Adams and Brown Counties. Donations also can be make directly to the Red Cross in the names of Jerod and Stacey Walker.

Dancing With our Stars 2017 is over five months away; however, competition amongst the dancers is already heating up! Dancing With Our Stars resembles ABC Television’s hit “Dancing with the Stars” and features ten community members, known as “star dancers”, who compete both on the dance floor and off the dance floor by raising money for the local Red Cross. Every dollar raised by an individual dancer equals one vote and the person with the most votes is awarded the coveted DWOS Fundraising Mirror Ball Trophy following the show scheduled for March 25, 2017 at the Friend’s Community Center.

“We are thrilled with the Walker’s involvement and enthusiasm to help us raise funds to support the critical services of compassionate care which the Red Cross provides to our community each day. Participants are given the opportunity to support the Walkers and be actively involved in providing relief to victims of disasters and helping the community prepare for and respond to emergencies,” Debbie Smith, Community Executive Director, said.
