Several students from the Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities’ Vern Riffe School received placement for their posters in the United Commercial Travelers of America (UCT) International Safety Poster Contest. Students from all across the United States and Canada participated, with the winners focusing on such safety issues as the dangers of texting and driving, substance abuse and fire and water safety, received ribbons and cash prizes.
This year’s winners will all be sent to the state for competition. They are:
Upper Level –
1st Place – Bret Wyatt
2nd Place – Kaylee Maguire
3rd Place – Ashley Lavey
Middle Level –
1st Place – Aaron Jacobs
2nd Place – Gabby Collins
Lower Level –
1st Place – Andrew Meyers
2nd Place – Robbie Scalf
3rd Place – Trenton Risner
State Winners –
1st Place – Brett Wyatt (Upper Level)
3rd Place – Gabby Collins (Middle Level)
1st Place – Trenton Risner (Lower Level)
Wyatt and Risner will advance to the National Judging Competion. UCT’s annual safety poster contest is open to all individuals with intellectual disabilities who are in special education classes in a public school or parochial school, or in a dedicated facility.
