Maybe you have experienced disappointment in your life lately. Is illness or financial problems “knocking at your door?” Maybe there is a trial waiting for you around the next corner. How will you handle the next emergency that you face? How will you get up when you are knocked down? The only thing that I can tell you is, “Look up!” That is what Nehemiah did when there was opposition to the rebuilding of the wall of Jerusalem.
Brothers and sisters prayer was Nehemiah’s life line and it is ours also! Prayer is the one thing that most of us as Christians forget to do in a time of trouble and tribulation. We set our minds on fixing the fix we are in all by ourselves. We think we can solve any problem that comes our way and when we fail we finally come to the realization that prayer IS our lifeline.
Let us come together and examine Nehemiah’s prayer in Nehemiah 4:4: “Hear, O our God, for we are despised. Turn back their taunt on their own heads and give them up to be plundered in a land where they are captives.” Please notice that Nehemiah didn’t waste any time or divert from the task at hand dealing with all the criticism he received from those who opposed him rebuilding the wall. Instead of trying to handle it all on his own, you know what Nehemiah did? He went straight to the throne room of God. Nehemiah recognized that God could do a better job of dealing with his enemies than he could, so he just gave all his problems to God and God delivered just like He always does!
The next time you are down or discouraged, let me give you the best piece of advice that you could ever receive, turn to your Heavenly Father He is the one who created you and He is the one who can sustain you. That plan of action seems so simple, doesn’t it? And yet, so often we try to figure everything out on our own. We try to fix things ourselves. And then we come to the end and we say, “Well, I guess I am just going to have to pray about it.” Don’t make prayer your last choice… make it your first choice! In fact if we really understand the world and the spiritual nature of hope and prosperity; it is our only choice.
Listen brothers and sisters, if you look behind you, you wll be defeated. If you look ahead of you, you will be distressed. If you look around you, you will be discouraged. But if you look above you, you will reap peace, tranquility and true victory because those things only come to them that truly love the Lord.
Here is some refrigerator door wisdom from me to you today. When problems come, and they will, take them to the top!
