The 2014 Miss Ohio USA and Miss Ohio Teen USA pageants will be returning to the Vern Riffe Center For the Arts on the campus of Shawnee State University in November for its 13th consecutive year.


“We’re thrilled that they have chosen Portsmouth as the host city, again this year,” said Kim Bauer, local pageant director. “This is always a great time to showcase the Portsmouth and Scioto county areas to people from around the state.”


She said the pageant will typically bring 2,200-3,000 people into the area, from around the state for the length of the pageant.


“A lot of the family members comes to cheer on their young lady(ies) as they participate in the pageant,” Bauer said.


She said there is usually a large number of people that come to Portsmouth for the pageant from around of the state.


“A lot of people don’t realize, this is not just a beauty pageant, there is a $45,000 scholarship to Lindenwood University that goes to the top 15,” Bauer said.


Kristin Smith, is Miss Ohio USA 2013, Brittany Reid, is Miss Ohio Teen USA 2013, both were crowned on the state of the Vern Riffe Center For the Arts last November.


Smith is preparing to compete in the Miss USA 2013 pageant that’s set to take place at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on Sunday, June 16.


Among the prizes Smith receives a college scholarship to Lindenwood University, and $1,000 as well as a partial tuition scholarship from the New York Film Academy. She will be an ambassador for the Pink Ribbon Girls; representation by Proctor Productions; modeling representation by NEW VIEW Midwest Model Management Group and will appear on the cover and receive an editorial article with CMagazine.


Reid picks up a $45,600 college scholarship to Lindenwood University; $500 as well as a partial tuition scholarship from the New York Film Academy.
