Six Eagle Scouts from Scioto County have been awarded a 2013 Samuel Wilson Ware Eagle Scholarship. Established in 2008 by the estate of the late Samuel Wilson Ware, the scholarship is available to any Eagle Scout who is a high school graduate or graduating senior and resident of Scioto County when earning his Eagle rank.
The recipients were recognized at the Tecumseh District’s 2013 Leadership Dinner at Shawnee State University. This year’s recipients include: Nathaniel Lowe DeCamp, Tanner Wade Hatcher, James Tyler Johnson, Nick Lee Johnson, Eric Nicholas Manninen, and Aaron David Wright.
Nathan DeCamp earned his Eagle rank in 2011while a member of Troop 21 in Wheelersburg. He is currently a freshman at the University of Dayton where he is majoring in Engineering and participating in the R.O.T.C. He is the son of Wilma and Dennis DeCamp
Tanner Hatcher. Tanner earned his Eagle rank in 2010 while a member of Troop 2 in Portsmouth. A freshman, he is pursuing a degree in Business from the Carl H. Linder College of Business at the University of Cincinnati and is the son of Jennifer Hatcher.
Nick Johnson is a senior at Valley High School where he is a member of the tennis team and helped lead the team to the SOC Team Championship in 2012. A member of Troop 12, he earned his Eagle rank in 2010. Nick plans to attend Otterbein University in the fall, play on the tennis team and earn a degree in communications with the goal of becoming a tennis broadcaster. He is the son of State Representative Dr. Terry Johnson and Jennifer Johnson.
Tye Johnson is completing his second year at The Ohio State University where he is majoring in business finance with plans to attend medical school. He earned his Eagle Rank in 2010 while a member of Troop 12 and is the son of State Representative Dr. Terry Johnson and Jennifer Johnson.
Eric Mannenin is a freshman at Miami University majoring in University Studies and a Midshipman in the N.R.O.T.C. He earned his Eagle rank in 2011 while a member of Troop 32. Eric is the son of Anita and Bruce Manninen.
Aaron Wright is a freshman at Shawnee State University where he is pursuing a degree in Pharmacy. He earned his Eagle rank in 2007 while a member of Troop 2 and currently is active in the Venturing Crew. Aaron is the son of Lisa and Dave Wright.
Mr. Ware, left a legacy through the Scholarship Fund to benefit Scouts in the hopes of encouraging future Eagle Scouts to continue their involvement and leadership in the Scouting program and their community. These six Eagle Scouts completed Eagle Scout service projects for their community that attribute thousands of volunteer hours given to Scioto County. “We are confident that they will each continue to give back to their community and to Scouting what has been given to them,” said Josh Howard, chairman of the scholarship committee,
Applications for the 2014 scholarship will be accepted from November 4, 2013 through February 28, 2014. The scholarship fund is available to any Eagle Scout who is a high school graduate or graduating senior and resident of Scioto County when earning his Eagle rank. The scholarship funds apply to tuition, room, board and books at any college/university accredited by recognized accreditation agencies and offers a bachelor’s degree or associates degree upon completion of the course of study offered.
