Nichols Given Army Commendation Medal

Army National Guard Sgt. Elic M. Nichols has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal.

The medal is awarded to individuals who, while serving in any capacity with the Army, have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism, meritorious achievement or meritorious service.

Nichols is a combat engineer assigned to the 1204th Aviation Support Battalion at Independence. The sergeant has served in the military for five years.

He is the son of Charles Nichols of Bellefonte Street, Russell, and Lois Nichols of McKay Road, Greenup.

Nichols graduated in 2007 from Russell High School.
