Bill Johnson Sworn in to the 113th Congress
Washington, D.C. - Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement after being sworn in to represent Ohio’s sixth congressional district in the 113th Congress. This marks the start of Johnson’s second term in Congress – first being elected in 2010.
“I’m humbled to have been entrusted with the solemn responsibility of representing the people of Eastern and Southeastern Ohio, especially during this critical time in America’s long and proud history. Our nation faces serious fiscal challenges due to Washington’s addiction to spending. While Washington’s spending problems are not new, out of control spending over the last four years has reached epic proportions. Consequently, our $16 trillion national debt threatens the prosperity of our children and grandchildren and America’s ability to defend itself. Right now, we have a choice. We can continue business as usual in Washington with more spending and more debt, OR we can chart a new course for America that will give our children and grandchildren the same opportunities to live the American Dream that my generation has been blessed with. We must start by forcing Washington to live within its means, keeping taxes low on hardworking Ohio families already struggling to make ends meet, and eliminating government red tape and tax burdens that make it difficult for small businesses to hire and expand. We must also unleash America’s innovative spirit that has been shackled by over-burdensome federal regulations. But most importantly, Washington must STOP the excessive government spending. I will continue fighting for policies that restrain spending and that help entrepreneurs and innovators create jobs for the ready, willing, skilled, and able workforce in Eastern and Southeastern Ohio who are eager to go back to work,” Johnson said.
Johnson added, “I am grateful for the opportunity and extremely honored to serve the people of Eastern and Southeastern Ohio for another term in Congress. I am ready to tackle the difficult challenges ahead, and look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the political aisle to find common sense solutions that work FOR the American people.”
