The Scioto County Board of Elections met in regular session on Monday, Nov 19th to count remaining ballots and certify the results of the Nov. 6 General Election.

Upon the certification of the election Doug Coleman defeated Tom Reiser for a seat on the county commissioners. Mike Crabtree defeated Donny Rachford to keep his seat on the county commissioners.

When asked what some of the upcoming challenges are going to be for the commissioners, Crabtree said, “the economy is going to be the biggest issue. It’s been a big issue for the last 8 years and is still going to be a big issue,” Crabtree said. “Things have improved in the county. It’s been a tough eight years but, conditions have improved considerably from what it was.”

He said a lot of things have changed over the last eight years.

“When we went into the deficit situation building the new county jail was a big factor. It (county jail) was also a big factor in helping us get back out of that,” Crabtree said.

He said the commissioners have a lot of work ahead of them.

“I appreciate the people of Scioto County who have given me a vote of confidence. It goes to show I have a lot of friends. We all know what I was up against this time around. I was not sure I was going to be able to pull it off,” Crabtree said. “We worked very hard, had a lot of people helping me. Together we did all we could and we pulled it off.”

Crabtree was thankful to the voters of Scioto County for their support.

“I say thanks to everyone that supported me in this election. Thanks for the vote of support and for the vote of confidence,” Crabtree said.

In the end Mike Crabtree received 14,908 to Donnie Rachford’s 14,746.

Coleman will take office on January 2, 2013 and Crabtree will take office on January 3, 2013.
