SCBDD receives AEP EE Business Program Project Award
Since 2007, the Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities (SCBDD) has worked to become more energy efficient at all four locations in Scioto County. As part of this effort, SCBDD became eligible to receive a financial incentive for doing so.
As part of its gridSMARTSM initiative, AEP Ohio, a unit of American Electric Power (NYSE:AEP), launched incentive programs for business and government customers who install energy efficient equipment.
“Energy efficiency is important not only to help us save money, but to also contribute to being environmentally friendly,” said Matt Purcell, director of finance at SCBDD.
The SCBDD was presented with a check for over $24,000 for implementing energy-efficiency lighting improvements and technologies that reduced energy consumption.
“AEP Ohio offers energy efficiency programs to help customers save energy and money. By participating in these programs, (SCBDD) saved on their monthly bills. Becoming energy efficient is a low cost, low carbon alternative for meeting Ohio’s energy needs in the future,” said Kelly Bussler, customer services representative with AEP in Portsmouth.
The State of Ohio is striving to reduce electricity consumption by 22 percent by the end of 2025. AEP Ohio’s gridSMART initiative includes several energy efficiency programs for businesses and consumers to help meet this goal, as well as the implementation of advanced technologies to help further manage electricity demand.
“SCBDD is proud to be a part of a green initiative to promote environmental friendliness. Participating in these initiatives and focusing on saving money also allows us the opportunity to expand our services, when needed, based on our consumers’ needs,” Purcell said.
