A longtime community member and Portsmouth Firefighter Jim Saddler will serve as the Grand Marshall of the 6th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade to be held on Saturday, March 17 starting at 11 a.m. in downtown Portsmouth.

“This years parade should be more fun than ever,” Lee Daily, Parade chairman said. “The parade will take place rain or shine.”

According to parade information this year’s route will stay the same as last year starting at Market area, going East on Second Street, north on Washington, East on 5th Street, north on Chillicothe Street and ending at Tracy Park.

As in previous years a Scottish Pipe Band from, Dublin will be participating in the parade.

Saddler said he is thrilled to get to be the parades grand marshal.

“This is highly unexpected that this hillbilly is going to be able to do that,” Saddler said.

According to the club’s website, www.7ncc.org the goal of the club is, “to celebrate, promote and preserve our common Celtic inheritance through educational, artistic and social means. Our mission is to promote public awareness and appreciation of the influence of Celtic culture through education, research, and the collection and dissemination of information; to serve as a forum for the collection and sharing of information concerning the effect of Celtic art, literature, music, and other cultural influences on our present society; and to encourage personal growth through education and social interaction. It is our goal to hold educational, artistic and entertainment events highlighting Celtic culture throughout the year.”
