Awards were presented at the ninth annual Celebration of Scholarship at Shawnee State University. The celebration is a special opportunity for students to showcase academic, creative and research projects.
Five $100 awards were presented to students in the College of Arts & Sciences and five $100 awards were presented to students in the College of Professional Studies for outstanding research papers and/or projects.
“We believe that the opportunities and challenges afforded through engaging in research and presenting at a conference such as this prepares the student for the future,” said Timothy Scheurer, Ph.D., dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Submissions were evaluated on the quality of the thesis statement or creative concept, how completely, coherently or imaginatively ideas were developed, how well ideas were supported with research, how well the paper was written (i.e., free of mechanical errors and written in an accessible and learned style) or how professionally the concept was executed.
“The Celebration of Scholarship Undergraduate Conference has well established itself as one of the highlights and most important events of our academic year,” said Jim Kadel, Ph.D., dean of the College of Professional Studies. “The Celebration is intended to offer opportunities for all students to share their interests, pose questions, and offer possible solutions to issues they have identified as important to society.”
All students who participated as writers and presenters were formally recognized and congratulated.
The Dean’s Award winners for 2013 are: Brittany Day, Janine Grey, Amanda Hutchinson, Mary Kincaid, Courtney Mayes, Andrew McClave, April McCleese, Rebecca Nelson, Caleb Sibert and Aiqin “Lena” Zhu.
