Goodyear
Shawnee State University and the Southern Ohio Performing Arts Association with the support of the Ohio Arts Council present classical pianist and composer Stewart Goodyear, a rising star among Canadian artists. He will be performing at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 21.
Goodyear is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and the Julliard School of Music. He has performed with top-tier orchestras throughout the world, including the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra, among many others.
Stewart’s repertoire ranges from Bach to Messiaen, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt and Gershwin. Known as an improviser and a composer, he has been commissioned by orchestras and chamber music organizations, and performs his own solo works.
In 2010, Goodyear performed at a sold out recital of Beethoven Sonatas in Toronto’s new Koerner Hall. The Middle Sonatas were released as a two-disc set on the Marquis Label.
Critics marvel at Goodyear’s “brilliant, tumultuous keyboard spanning cadenzas, jazzy runs and quick syncopations.” He received rave reviews with his own composition, the fanfare “Count Up,” performed by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in Spring 2011.
The event is sponsored by the Scioto Foundation. Tickets are $32 to $34 with discounts for seniors and students.
