Plans are underway for the Tecumseh District Leadership Dinner presented by the Simon Kenton Council, Boy Scouts of America. Now in its thirty-third year, the dinner is one of the longest running fund raising events in the Portsmouth area. Scheduled for April 23rd at the SODEXO Ballroom on the campus of Shawnee State University, the dinner is sponsored by the Glockner Family of Dealerships. All proceeds benefit the Scouting programs in Simon Kenton Council including Scioto, Lawrence and Adams counties in Ohio and Greenup County in Kentucky.
Bill Schwamberger, retired business owner and longtime friend of Scouting will be presented this year’s “Good Scout Award” for his continued dedication to the local scouting program and Camp Oyo. “The dinner offers us the opportunity to introduce the 2012 Eagle Class to our community, recognize the recipients of the 2013 Samuel Wilson Ware Eagle Scholarship and honor a community leader,” explained dinner coordinator, Vicky Hatcher. The evening will begin with a reception including music provided by Steve Free and a Silent Auction sponsored by Bodmer and Hannah General Contractors.
Dan Cassidy, dinner chairman, very enthused about his year’s Dinner Committee. “We have a number of outstanding community leaders who have collectively pulled together to make this event a huge success. Their enthusiasm is a driving force. The dinner committee includes Ralph Applegate, Dr. Bob Barnett. Sean Boldman, Eric Braun, Dan Cassidy, Covert, Jamie Duckworth, Attorney T. Gerlach, Neal Hatcher, C.B. Herrmann, Attorney Josh Howard, Asa Jewett, Ron LeMaster, Mark Morgan, Bob Rutman, l Spears and Dave Wright,” said Cassidy.
The Simon Kenton Council is one of the largest Boy Scout councils in the nation serving seven counties in central and southern Ohio and Greenup County in Kentucky. Scioto, Lawrence and Adams counties in Ohio and Greenup County in Kentucky comprise the Tecumseh District, one of eleven traditional Scouting districts which serve specific school districts and communities. The Council is staffed by 22 professional Scouters with over 8,000 adult volunteers delivering the Scouting program to more than 35,000 youth. More than 550 charter partner organizations sponsor more than 800 Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Venturing, and Exploring units in the Council. The Council’s goal is to be the premiere leader in youth development by delivering on the promise to provide character development, citizenship training, personal fitness and fun. The values instill ed in area youthare based on those found in the Scout Oath and Law and Outdoor Code.
