Hall of Fame Banquet kicks off SSU’s Homecoming weekend

The 2013 Hall of Fame Induction Banquet kicks off the annual Shawnee State University’s Homecoming weekend at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan 18 in the Sodexo Ballroom.

The inductees this year are Adam Davenport (’05), Dan Grummitt (’01), Becky Holden Elkins (’02), Sarah Downing Koehler (07) and John Koustomer. The public is invited and reservations must be made in advance.

Tickets for the banquet are $20 each and may be purchased online at http://2013ssuhalloffame.eventbrite.com. For more information, contact Jonna Cook at jcook@shawnee.edu or Justin Grube at jgrube@shawnee.edu. Past Hall of Fame members can receive their complimentary banquet tickets by contacting Grube.

A Tent Village will be set up outside the Athletic Center at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 (weather permitting). Various groups at the University will sponsor tents, such as the Greeks, SSU Alumni and the Student Programming Board.

The games begin when the Bears host Bluefield College for a basketball doubleheader at the Frank and Janis Waller Gymnasium beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Women’s Basketball team followed by the Men’s team.

The Hall of Fame inductees will be introduced at halftime. Crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen, contests, special recognitions and more will take place throughout the day. Free throws, T-shirt gun, Man vs. Food, Dizzy Bat contest, races and half-court shots are just a few of the activities during the day.

An Alumni Mixer will be at Oscars at the Holiday Inn from 8 to 11 p.m. The Homecoming Dance begins at 9 p.m. in the Sodexo Ballroom at the University Center. Alumni will receive free tickets to the Homecoming Dance and must request them in advance by e-mailing dgregory@shawnee.edu.
