The Scioto-Pike County FSA Committee (COC) will conduct an Election on December 1, 2014 to for Local Administrative Area One (LAA #1) and Local Administrative Area 4 (LAA #4). Debbie Pendleton of Stout is finishing her third term on the COC and is ineligible to run again due to term limits. Nolan Staker III is finishing his first term. The individuals elected will serve a three-year term, taking office on January 1, 2015 with the term concluding on December 31, 2017.
Eligible voters have the right to nominate candidate(s) of their choice. Nomination forms may be obtained at the Scioto-Pike County FSA Office, 12167A State Route 104, Lucasville, OH 45648. The agency is reaching out to agricultural communities to get equitable representation on the COC. Underrepresented farmers and ranchers are encouraged to step up and participate in their county’s COC election process. Producers may notice posters and announcements displayed in businesses, churches, and other public places.
Each form submitted must be:
• limited to 1 nominee
• signed by the nominee, indicating willingness to serve, if elected
• postmarked or delivered to the County FSA Office no later than Friday, August 1, 2014.
Any nominee should be currently engaged in the operation of a farm or ranch and be well qualified for committee work. A producer is eligible to be a County FSA Committee member if the producer lives in the LAA up for election and is an eligible voter. LAA #1 consists of the townships of Rarden, Morgan, Brush Creek, Union, and Nile townships in Scioto County. LAA #4 consists of the townships of Pee Pee, Jackson, Seal, Scioto, Beaver, Union, and Marion townships in Pike County.
COC members may not hold positions in certain farm and commodity organizations if these positions pose a conflict of interest with FSA duties. These positions include functional offices such as president, vice president, secretary, and positions on boards or executive committees. Additional information of eligibility to hold office may be obtained at the County FSA Office.
The duties of County FSA Committee member include:
• informing farmers and ranchers of the purpose and provisions of the FSA programs
• keeping the State FSA Committee informed of LAA conditions
• recommending needed changes in farm programs
• participating in county meetings as necessary
• performing other duties as assigned by the State FSA Committee.
