Contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation are set to begin a bridge replacement project on state Route 125 in Adams County, and the route will be closed to traffic next week.
DGM Incorporated will be rehabilitating the existing three-span structure by replacing the deck, beams, abutments, portions of the piers and the necessary roadway approaches. Situated over Mill Creek, the bridge is located immediately east of Township Road 312 (Riley Hollow Road) and west of County Road 125B (Hazelbaker Road).
A full closure of the route during construction is necessary due to safety and constructability concerns that were identified during the design phase. In addition to the bridge’s alignment in a vertical and horizontal curve, the abutments and beams that would be needed to maintain traffic for part-width construction are being replaced, and the scale and scope of their replacement would not allow for traffic to move safely or easily if the route were to remain open during construction.
As such, S.R. 125 will be closed for up to 130 days, and while it is closed traffic will be detoured by way of S.R. 348 and C.R. 18 (Blue Creek Road).
DGM, Inc., of Beaver, Ohio was awarded a contract in the amount of approximately $1.08 million to replace the bridge, and all work is anticipated to be completed by late summer.
