The New Boston Homemakers and Community Education Club met Thursday, October 10 at the New Boston Community Center.
Rosella Riepenhoff, President, opened the meeting. Nine members answered roll call. Dee Lightner led the pledge and Janet Riepenhoff led the creed.
Alberta D. Potters gave the secretary’s report. Patty Jenkins made the motion to accept minutes as read; Janet Riepenhoff seconded. Motion carried.
Janice Tomlin gave the treasurer’s report. Irene Duffany made the motion to accept report as given; Rosella Riepenhoff seconded. Motion carried. Janice collected the Sunshine Fund and dues.
Patty gave devotions “Hayride Memories” by Louise Pinkerton Fritz and “A National Prayer” by Thomas Jefferson. Freda Billiter will have devotions in November.
Rosella will be in charge of the door prize for the International Dinner. Members were reminded to bring their turbans and tote bags. They are to bring a covered dish.
Rosella reported on the council meeting. Marilyn Warner, council president, would like clubs to think of lesson ideas for 2014. Members suggested Medicare/Obama care, hip and bone replacement, and the history of homemakers. Alberta will be checking with Adult Living at Best Care to see if the homemakers can have a bake sale at their chili cook-off. Alberta and Patty will be working on the showcase going to the state meeting.
Celebrate the Holidays will be November 12. The theme will be poinsettias. Rosella is in charge of the door prize. Minford will be decorating the tables and leading the pledge and creed. There will be a toy drive for New Boston community. The meal will be finger food. Janet Twinam, Eastern, will be doing a curtain call on crosses. There will a curtain call on decorating blue jean pockets. An apron fashion show will be presented.
Alberta and Patty will be buying gifts for a boy. Name to be chosen from the Wal-Mart giving tree. The amount to be spent is no more than $55.00.
The Christmas dinner will be at the New Boston Community Center. It will be a covered dish. Members are to bring a $5.00 passing party gift.
Members made turkeys for Heartland and will be making Christmas cards for Best Care.
Election of officers was held. Janice Tomlin nominated Janet Riepenhoff treasurer;
Irene Duffany seconded. Motion carried. Annabelle Carver nominated Irene Duffany Vice-President; Rosella Riepenhoff seconded. Motion carried. Officers for 2014 are: Rosella Riepenhoff – President; Irene Duffany – Vice President; Janet Riepenhoff – Treasurer; and Alberta D. Potters – Secretary.
Janice Tomlin made the motion to adjourn; Patty Jenkins seconded. Motion carried.
Janice gave the blessing on the food.
