Today from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. you will be able to go online and help 16 nonprofit organizations in Scioto County.
The Scioto Foundation will sponsor Scioto Gives; a one-day, online, matching gift endowment drive benefitting a total of 16 local, nonprofit organizations in Scioto County. The Counseling Center is a participating nonprofit and donations made on this one day have an opportunity for matching funds from The Scioto Foundation. The Counseling Center needs your help to make our part of the campaign a success.
“It’s a great thing,” Gina Collinsworth, Marketing/Resource Development Director at Compass Community Health, said. “There are 16 local charities - the 1810 House, the Boy Scouts, Shawnee Mental Health, Scioto County Friends with Developmental Disabilities, the homeless shelter, the Red Cross, the Portsmouth Area Arts Council, and on and on. It’s an online program that has a matching component. For every dollar that each of the 16 charities raises, there’s a pot of $20,000 that the Scioto Foundation is going to match.”
The Counseling Center is asking locals, along with the national community, to support The Counseling Center’s program related endeavors by giving to the Scioto Gives campaign to recover a life.
Residents are being invited to go online from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at www.sciotogives.org/tcc and pledge to give. The Donate button at the bottom of the website will be active during the 12-hour period only. You may donate online, or checks may also be dropped off in person to the Scioto Foundation - 303 Chillicothe Street, or The Counseling Center’s Administrative office, at 923 Findlay Street, Portsmouth, Ohio. For more information, contact Community Relations and Development at 740-354-3829, ext. 240.
The Scioto Foundation is asking the community to give online, as little as $10, to help recover a life. Kim Cutlip, Director of the Scioto Foundation, said larger gifts are welcome, too, but even a gift of $10 will make a difference in someone’s life.
Collinsworth said generosity and a one-time gift of even $10 to The Counseling Center’s Scioto Gives campaign will make a difference by providing:
- 30 diapers for a new mom currently in recovery treatment
- One Summer Prevention and outreach Club camper a field trip to an afternoon movie matinee
- Three and a half young men a hot lunch while in recovery
- Three gallons of gas to transport newly-transitioned, clean and sober clients to their first job interview in months
- Give four Easter baskets to children in recovering families
- Four pairs of socks for someone who has nothing, plus a clean pillow to lay their head down on
