Flu season is just around the corner and as dreadful as the cold & flu season may sound, PrimaryPlus has just the thing to make it all better—the flu shot. Flu shots at PrimaryPlus locations for ONLY $15.00. This great price on flu shots is available anytime at their many office locations; however, PrimaryPlus-South Shore has set aside October 23rd and 24th from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm to host a flu shot clinic at their 142 Depot Dr. location (located next to Family Dollar) to help get you in and out quickly—with no wait time.

Flu season can start as early as October and can end as late as May. The flu vaccine reduces the chances of getting the flu. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests that the following high risk individuals should consider taking the flu shot:

—Children who are 6 months or older

—Pregnant Women

—People 50 years of age and older

—People of any age that may have chronic medical conditions (such as heart

disease, diabetes, asthma, etc).

—People living in nursing homes and/or long-term care facilities.

—People who live with or care for those who are at risk for complications from

the flu such as caregivers, healthcare workers, etc.

People who should not be vaccinated or should consult with their doctor beforehand include those with a severe allergy to chicken eggs, those who have had a severe reaction to the flu vaccine in the past, those who have developed Gullian-Barre syndrome within 6 weeks of receiving the vaccine in the past, children less than 6 months of age, and people who have a moderate or severe illness containing fever should wait until symptoms lessen before becoming vaccinated.

There are preventative ways to also help prevent the spread of germs that we should practice year round. These include:

—Covering your nose and mouth when you sneeze or cough. Use a tissue and make sure to properly dispose of it.

—Wash your hands with soap and water often (but especially after coughing and sneezing). Alcohol based sanitizers also work.

—Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

—Try to avoid contact with sick people and/or if sick limit exposure to others.

—Those who have flu-like symptoms are encouraged by the CDC to stay home for at least 24 hours after fever breaks (accept to receive medical care).

Again, flu vaccines are ONLY $15.00 at PrimaryPlus locations, with payment being required the day of your visit (with the exception of Medicare and Medicaid patients—Medicaid patients must have an appointment). The no-wait time flu clinic will be held October 23rd and 24th from 8:30-4:30. PrimaryPlus-South Shore features the care of James Ryan, APRN and Jim Yount, MPA-C offering complete care for the entire family including family health, women’s health, x-ray services and minor procedure care.
