MASON COUNTY — Everyone knows a person, club, organization, or business that has generously given time, talent or financial support to improve our community. Take a few minutes and nominate that person or group for the Spirit of Our Community Award.
“This is a great way to honor those who are working hard for Mason County. It will take just a few minutes to submit a nomination and in turn will give these special people an honor of a lifetime. The deadline of September 6th is quickly approaching, so take 15 – 20 minutes this week and submit a nomination,” said Jane Winters, Our Community’s Foundation Regional Manager of Affiliates.
Our Community’s Foundation – Mason County (MCCF) and the Point Pleasant Register sponsor the Spirit of Our Community Program to honor the special volunteers and donors in the county who do so much to improve the community. “It is our hope that by showcasing these volunteers through this unique recognition program, it will encourage new leaders to follow their good works and continue to make Mason County a great place to live, work, and raise a family,” added Paul Simon, MCCF Marketing Committee Chairperson.
Submitting a nomination is easy. Simply fill out and send in a brief nomination form along with a written paragraph or two outlining why the nominee should be considered. It is important the commitee be given a general understanding of the type of things nominees have done and how their actions have impacted the community. Nomination forms are available online at Our Community’s Foundation website www.pacfwv.com. Click on News & Events then click on the Mason County Spirit of Our Community Program story. Within the story is a link that allows you to download a nomination form. Forms also may be obtained by calling 304 372-8588. Nominations may be mailed to the Mason County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 66, Point Pleasant, WV 25550, submitted online to email@example.com or faxed to 304 428-4438 and must be received by 4 p.m. September 6th. Winners will be selected by September 30th.
“Often those who make the greatest contributions are those who are most unassuming,” Simon said. “They are the quiet, everyday heroes who prefer to remain behind the scenes. Let’s not overlook them,” Simon added.
Those who volunteer their time or financial support to help children, the elderly or the ill might be candidates for the Spirit award. Volunteers who are involved in emergency services, animal welfare or beautification of public spaces also should be considered. Winners will be selected in a wide variety of categories.
The four to six winners chosen for the 2013 Mason County Sprit of Our Community award will be honored at the Annual Spirit of Our Community Benefit November 14. Honorariums of $5,000 each will be awarded to community grant funds in honor of each of this year’s recipients. These honorariums will be earmarked for Mason County Arts and Education, Youth, and the Mason County Community Foundation Scholarship Funds. Award winners also will be featured in a special newspaper section the week of November 4th.
Program sponsors also will be honored at the event. Sponsorship forms are available by calling 304 372-8588 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Sponsorship donations of any amount are welcomed. Donations of $250 and up entitle donors to complimentary tickets to the event. Sponsors will be included in news coverage prior to the event, in the special November news section and in a full-page recognition advertisement the week of November 4th. Individual tickets are $50. Designated half tables for 4 are available for $500 and full tables for eight are $1,000.
