GALLIPOLIS — The Gallia Community Foundation announced the creation of a new fund to support the Gallia County Fair during Monday evening’s opening of the 2013 fair season. The Gallia County Fair Relocation Fund will assist in moving the current junior fairgrounds to a new location where they will be better protected from the elements and better able to provide the county’s young people with space to showcase their hard work and talent.

“Relocating the fairgrounds has been a priority for the Gallia County Fair Board for several years, and we are excited to partner with the Gallia Community Foundation and Foundation for Appalachian Ohio to ensure fundraising success for the relocation project,” said Tim Massie, secretary of the Gallia County Fair Board. “By relocating the fairgrounds, we hope to engage new opportunities for growth for the community and its youth.”

According to Massie, the Gallia County Junior Fairgrounds’ current location is in a dangerous floodplain. The fairgrounds have seen the impact of sudden rainstorms on the fair as well as the safety of youth, fairgoers and livestock projects in the past. The Gallia County Fair Relocation Fund will help Gallia County relocate its junior fairgrounds with support from the community. All of the fund’s resources will be used for the relocation and upkeep of the Gallia County Junior Fairgrounds, including planning projects, capital improvements and general operations of the facilities.

“My experiences with 4-H and the Gallia County Junior Fair have been the most influential in my life, so I’m very happy to be a part of the fundraising effort to relocate the fairgrounds,” said Jodie McCalla, Gallia Community Foundation advisory committee member. “This is not only a worthwhile effort for our county fair, but will have tremendous impact to the economic development of our community.”

The fund has been opened through the generous contributions of the following founding donors: Kail and Phyllis Burleson and Family; Brent and Teresa Eastman and Family; Kathryn Massie; Rob and Connie Massie and Family; Tim and Pam Massie and Family; Mike and Kathy McCalla and Family; The Casby Meadows Family; Bruce and Tammy Scarberry; and Dr. Joey and Rebecca Wilcoxon.

The Gallia County Fair Relocation Fund is a member of the Gallia Community Foundation Family of Funds. Although each fund within the family may have a distinct purpose within the community, all funds concentrate on growing a stronger community, for its current and future residents. In addition to this newest fund, the Gallia Community Foundation Family of Funds includes the Digital River Project Fund, the Gallia County Arts and Culture Fund, and the Gallipolis/Gallia Bicentennial Fund. More information about each of these funds can be found at www.appalachianohio.org.
