Mark your calendars and plan on coming out to Scioto County’s own American Cancer Society Relay for Life event.
The relay is always a celebration for the lives that have been saved through the efforts of many people across the country. As they promote fundraisers that are headed up by many different team members that are heroes in this war we have been fighting for a very long time. Much progress has been made but as long as people are suffering, the war is not over and we need the help of all those who can be valiant and can make the time to help where they can.
The Relay will be held at the Scioto County Fair Grounds, on June 20th, 2014 and will begin with the famous Survivors Dinner. As always there will be lots of food (catered by the Ribber), great door-prizes (donated by local businesses, neighbors, healthcare professionals and others that are helping with their time, money and support). If you are a survivor you may bring one person as your guest and for additional guests there will be a nominal charge. This is a great time to renew friendships and catch up on happenings with people that the survivors have met through their treatment periods. Following dinner there will be the Victory lap around the single track and then all the teams follow honoring all those that have just preceded them.
The evening continues with an under cover auction and out-doors the entertainment will begin and continue into the morning hours. Lots of tents operated by the different teams will be rendering up some great foods you will want to try. Near dark, there is always a beautiful candle lit Luminary Ceremony that lingers in your heart. The luminaries are lit in memory of those that have lost their fight with cancer, those that have beat it, and those that are still fighting it every day. You may purchase the luminary’s at the event, from any team member, or you may call Rosie Williams at 354-4363.
“Relay for Life is as much an awareness raiser about the progress against cancer as it is a fundraiser, said Scioto County Relay for Life Chair, Rosie Williams and however you can help whether it is by giving of your time, money, energy or if it is coming out to the Relay share in the celebration, you will be helping to fight back against this disease. All funds raised from this event will go toward the American Cancer Society’s research, education, advocacy and patient services”. If you would like more information please call Rosie Williams at 354-4363. SEE YOU THERE!!!!!
