The Department of Energy offers a free public tour each month at the Portsmouth Site in Piketon, excluding winter, with spaces still available June 21, July 19, Aug. 16, Sept.20 and Oct. 18. The visit allows participants to see the former uranium enrichment facilities that were used from 1954 to 2001 in support of the Department of Defense and later the nuclear fuel industry. The driving tour is offered by reservation on a first-come basis to 40 people 18 or older and lasts from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
