Kids’ Events Announced

Yarn Letters

Tweens ages 8-12 are invited to the Portsmouth library location March 4 at 4pm to make their own yarn letters. Please call 354-5304 to let us know you are coming. We want to make sure we have enough materials available.

Spring Craft Spring is just around the corner and it’s time to make some crafts to celebrate its coming. This program is for ages 4 – 11 and will be offered at the Lucasville and Wheelersburg locations.

At Lucasville- March 8 at 2pm

Family Story Time

New to 2014, the library is happy to add a new story time program on Saturday. Families are invited to join the Youth Services Department for our brand new Saturday Family Story time. Children ages 6 and under will enjoy this fun story time along with a craft and playtime. Join us at the Portsmouth library location March 8 at 2pm.

Children Sign Language Basic Class

Ages 5-11 are invited to join us to broaden basic sign language skills in an open and positive environment. Join us March 7 at 3:30pm. This class is free of charge but you must sign up in advance by calling 354-5688 ext. 0 or visiting the Reference Desk at the Main library.

Certified Therapy Dogs from the Southern Ohio All Breed Dog Club (and their owners) will be at various library locations. The dogs will be available to listen to any young reader wishing to practice their skills.

Upcoming Adult/Teen Activities Announced

Quilt Show

Continuing into its fifteenth year, the Down By the River Quilt Guild’s Spring Library Show shows no sign of losing popularity.

This year’s theme, ‘Bright and Beautiful’ promises to be a show that will delight viewers, whether they are quilters themselves or not. The quilts will be hung from the balcony of the Portsmouth library location from March 1 through April 11 and available for viewing any time the library is open. A guide with additional information about each of the quilts will be available at the circulation desk. If you would like any additional information about the show please call 354-5688 ext. 10513.

Writing Workshop

The Portsmouth Public Library will be hosting its fourth annual Writing Workshop. Following a slightly different format this year the entire workshop will take place on March 22 from 10am-4pm in the Copley Meeting Room of the Portsmouth Location. Aspiring authors can look forward to classes including; ‘Why Aspiring Writers Procrastinate and What to Do About It,’ Deep POV-Know Your

Pieces & Patches Quilting

This quilting group welcomes beginners as well as experienced quilters. (This is an Adult Program) Join us at the Lucasville location March 3 at 6pm.

Adult Painting Class

The Miracle Worker

The classic version of the film ‘The Miracle Worker’ staring Patty Duke will be shown at the Portsmouth library location March 8 at 2pm.

The A.R.T. Gallery

Oil and acrylic art entries for the April A.R.T. Gallery showing must be submitted to the library by March 22nd to be included in the show.

Monthly Media Trivia

Every month PPL offers a new media themed trivia. Fill out a trivia each month to be entered in to win the corresponding “books into movies” prize!
