Interim Scioto County Economic Development Director Todd Book will soon be leaving his position with the county to take a job with the Ohio Bar Association.

Kenneth Brown, Director of Public and Media Relations for the Ohio Bar Association confirmed exclusively to the Daily Times on Thursday evening that Book has been hired as legislative council.

“Todd is coming up to be our legislative council. I don’t have an exact starting date yet but, he will be joining us and we are excited about it,” Brown said.

Brown said Book was a recent hire but, was unaware of when.

When asked if Book was appointed or applied for the position Brown said, “he applied. Todd was on our board of governors and he has since resigned that position since he will now be on staff.”

When asked about job responsibilities for Book, Brown said, “his work will be as a part of our legislative team at the state house.”

Mike Crabtree, Chairman of the Scioto County Commissioners said as of Thursday evening Book had not submitted a letter of resignation.

When asked about a possible letter, Crabtree said, “he (Book) has not submitted a letter yet. I think somewhere down the road he is going to do something. I never did expect him to be working for the county forever.”

In a released statement Book said, “there is a long transition period with lots of stuff to be done before I actually leave (county employment). The commissioners were made aware of it.”

According to information provided by the Ohio Bar Association, “Book is a partner in the Portsmouth firm of Harcha, Book & Beck, LLC, and four-term member of the Ohio House of Representatives.

Book received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Western Michigan University and his law degree from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary. In his community, he is a member of the Portsmouth Civic Forum and a trustee of the Second Presbyterian Church.

Book is married to his wife, Emily, who tutors dyslexic students. They have three children: Cassidy, Avery, and Meredith.”
