The Ohio River Valley American Red Cross’s Dancing With Our Stars kickoff party was held on Friday, November 3rd, at the Friends Community Center in Portsmouth. The event was a chance for community members to meet the stars of the 2018 competition between 5 and 7 p.m. while enjoying entertainment and a Broadway Costume contest, where the winners received two reserved tickets to the 2018 Dancing With Our Starts Broadway Show.

“We’re very excited to be kicking off our sixth season of Dancing With Our Stars. We have great support from the community, with our biggest fund raiser for the Red Cross. We’re hoping we have a good turn out here tonight and are looking forward to the show in March,” said Chairman Vicky Hatcher. “We’re still selling sponsorships if anyone is interested and will have individual seats for sell after the beginning of the year if seats are still available. We’ve always had a sellout crowd, so the best way to secure seats is through a sponsorship.”

The event featured live music, a cash bar, and Hors d’oeuvres compliments of Market Street Café, Hot Head Burrito, Port City Café & Pub, Fuzion Grill, The Portsmouth Brewing Company and Fork & Finger Café.

The individual dancers for the sixth DWOS season were introduced, along with their partners to give the audience a taste of what to expect in the upcoming show.

“We’re having our dancing with the starts kick off, meet the stars. This year our Dancing With Our Stars is going to be on Broadway, so the dancers are taking it to the streets and doing some wonderful performances from their favorite Broadway selections this year. This is just the kick off to get everything started, the dancers are working hard on getting sponsorships and getting people to vote for them. Every vote is a dollar for the Red Cross, and all the wonderful things we do in the community like disaster response, and the free smoke alarms that we install. They really help make a huge difference to those affected by disasters, and things like that. We’re very excited to have another great year this year with our dancers,” said Debbie Smith of The American Red Cross.

The Stars of the sixth DWOS season are Scott Artis, Reece Brown, Sean Frazier, Scot Isaac, Sean King, Jen Rapp, Andrea Ryan, Alisha Schmidt, and Brian Stephenson.

“Right now the dancers are just getting started, they’re working on selling tickets and sponsorships, some of them will be starting their practices now or in the next few weeks. They do a great job, they all work so hard for a great cause and we appreciate all that they do,” said Smith. “Of course we appreciate the community too, we wouldn’t be able to do DWOS without the community support.”

The Dancing with Our Stars on Broadway show will be held March 24, 2018 at the Friends Community Center.
