November is National Diabetes Month and is observed to bring awareness to the millions of people who are living with diabetes in the United States.
Currently there is no cure for type-1 diabetes, but by increasing awareness to the cause, there is hope to make a change and one day find a cure. This November, not only can you bring awareness to type-1 diabetes you can also join more than 1,000 people of all ages who are either living with type-1 diabetes or supporting the cause for a loved one living with type-1 diabetes.
Nov. 5, JDRF Southwest Ohio will be hosting the 4th annual JDRF TypeOneNation Ohio Summit – a free event taking place in Cincinnati, Ohio that offers several breakout sessions that discuss various type-1 diabetes topics, an Exhibitor Fair, free boxed lunch, and two keynotes presented by two well-known individuals in the type-1 diabetes community.
Kid’s Camp will also be available from 9:30 a.m. to 11:55 a.m. and from 2 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. for children ages 5-7 who do not wish to participate in daily activities. Space is limited so it is recommended to register as early as possible.
Although registration is free, any donation made to help JDRF continue the ability to host these annual events would be greatly appreciated. Once you have signed up, you can look forward to the exciting schedule planned for the day, which begins at 8:45 for registration. Once registered, you’ll have the opportunity to walk around the Exhibitor Fair from 9:00 am to 10:00 am before the morning keynote begins.
You will not want to miss the morning keynote “My Experience as a T1D Guinea Pig” with Brian Herrick in which he recounts his experience of the clinical trial in which he received an artificial pancreas. Herrick will also share his opinions on how clinical trials are helping to pave a way to find a cure for type 1 diabetes. At the end of Herrick’s morning keynote, you will have the opportunity to choose from several breakout sessions of varying topics. The breakout sessions begin at 10:45 am and continue until 4:30 p.m., with an Exhibitor Fair & lunch break, and exciting afternoon keynote in-between sessions. Topics of the 10:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. breakout sessions are:

The breakout sessions are designed to provide information on many different topics which makes it easy to choose those that sound the most interesting, relevant, or exciting to you. When registering for the event, at TypeOneNationSummit.org, you will be able to choose from one topic for each breakout session to secure your spot.
At the end of the first breakout session, a free boxed lunch will be provided in the Exhibitor Fair between 11:45 am and 1:00 pm. Take note that these lunches are first come, first served, and know that both vegetarian and gluten free options are available for those who need them. Following lunch, the second keynote speaker, American Idol contestant Crystal Bowersox will speak of her own life experience with type 1 diabetes, and follow up with a Q&A and an exciting live performance. This afternoon keynote will begin at 1:00 pm, and continue until 2:00 pm before the second breakout sessions begin.
