Children’s Summer Reading Program Events This Week-Fizz, Boom, Read! We are celebrating reading all summer. Kids can sign up for summer reading June 2nd. Visit your favorite library location and sign up today. You will be entered for some great prizes and get to attend these fabulous, science based events.

Teen Summer Reading Events This Week

Marshmallow Engineering

Calling all architects! Experiment with your engineering side and design an architecturally sound structure from marshmallows. Ages 13-18. Registration required. This program will be held at the New Boston library location June 30 at 3:30pm.

Catapult Extravaganza

Teens will have the opportunity to build their own catapult and then test its’ engineering in a series of obstacles. Supplies provided by PPL. Supplies will be provided. Ages 13-18. Registration required. This program will be held at the Portsmouth library location July 3 at 5:30pm.

Adult Summer Reading Activities This Week

Record Clocks

Participants can make a vintage record clock at the Portsmouth library location July 1 at 4pm. This program is free of charge but you must sign up in advance by calling 354-5688 ext. 0.

Upcoming Adult/Teen Activities Announced

Community Garden at the Portsmouth Public Library

The Portsmouth Public Library has started a community garden. Each week we teach classes in the garden and provide hands on experience for anyone interested in learning. Experts Kate Sowards from the Scioto Soil and Water Conservation District and Lisa Kepler from the Ohio University Extension will be on hand every session to teach you how to get the most out of your garden.

As the gardening season progresses we will also be offering food preservation classes to teach you how to can, freeze and dry what you harvest. Treva Williams from the Ohio State University Extension will be our expert presenting these classes.

We would love to see you in our garden. Join us to get hands on experience this summer. Family participation is encouraged. If you have any questions, please call 354-5688 ext. 10513.

The Portsmouth Public Library will be hosting its Yoga group at 10am in the Copley Meeting Room on Tuesday, July 1.

Adult Painting Class

The South Webster library location will be hosting an adult painting class beginning at 5:30 pm July 1. There will be limited available seating, please stop to pre-register, fee is required at sign-up. For more information, call the South Webster Branch Library at 778-2122.

Monthly Media Trivia

Every month PPL offers a new media themed trivia. Fill out a trivia each month to be entered in to win the corresponding “books into movies” prize!

Technology Classes Offered

The Information Technology Department of the Portsmouth Public Library will be offering a variety of computer classes this week. The schedule is as follows.

June 30- Photo Editing at 4pm

July 1- Microsoft Word at 1pm

July 2- Basic Computer at 1pm

July 3- Computers for Seniors at 3pm
