Russell D. Williams American Legion Auxiliary Unit 471 Junior President Allison Zornes,17, of Lucasville was presented with the American Legion Auxiliary Nationals Good Deed Award on Thursday, April 24, 2014 @ 6:00pm at the Hall of American Legion Post 471 on Gallia Street in Portsmouth, Ohio for her volunteer work in the community.
The certificate and pin were officially presented to Allison by District 7 President Sandra Grooms and Allison’s local ALA Unit 471 President Betty Taylor.
As District 7 President Sandy Grooms addressed the group at the special surprise spaghetti dinner held by her ALA Unit for Allison’s massive achievement, Grooms told them, “In the 47 years of being involved with the American Legion Auxiliary, this is the FIRST National award I’ve ever seen.”
Betty Taylor, Allison’s local ALA President, knew about the award for a few weeks prior to presentation and was instrumental in planning the surprise dinner and meeting. Fellow ALA member Kay Gray baked and decorated Allison a beautiful patriotic cake further honoring the evening’s festivities. “I’m really proud of her,” said Betty Taylor, “We’re all very glad she’s a part of us.”
Allison was completely caught off guard by the evening, seeing that she was led to believe it was but a meeting on paperwork. She got very emotional when she realized her achievement and all that her Auxiliary had done for her to make the evening special. “They’re the BEST; I love working with my auxiliary and helping veterans,” Zornes simply said this evening.
Allison Zornes is also known in the community for her local visiting with Therapy Dog Beck and being the President of the Alpha Pups 4H Dog Club in Lucasville. She is daughter of Kevin & Kathi Jo Zornes and sister to Brandon Zornes of Lucasville, Ohio.
