Wheelersburg team brings home championship

A Wheelersburg Pirate 6th grade basketball team brought home a State Championship Title from the Ohio Youth Basketball School Team State Championships Tournament held in Columbus, Ohio, over the weekend of February 22, 2014. Over 125 teams participated in the event and crowned 13 Ohio Youth Basketball Champions. The criteria for playing in the tournament are that all players must attend the school district that they are playing for and the teams are divided according to their high school divisions. The team participated as 3rd graders and was Shoot Out Champs. They also participated as 4th and 5th graders and were runner-up both years. This year they defeated Crooksville (40-20), Fort Frye (55-34), Fairland (59-27), Belpre (40-30), and Grandview (46-26) to bring home the championship.
