Soccer Coach and Player Recognized at State Level

The Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches’ Association held its annual awards banquet on Sunday, January 5, 2014 in Columbus.


Keith Thurmer, a junior at Wheelersburg and leading scorer with 21 goals and 11 assists, was selected as Second Team in Division III.


Wheelersburg Soccer Coach, Paul Boll was awarded the 2013 Ron Pinsenschaum Award. The award is given annualy to the coach, regardless of Division, in recognition of ethics and sportsmanship, as well as efforts on and off the field to build up the sport of high school soccer in the state of Ohio. It is considered the highest award for a boys’ soccer coach in the state.


Paul Boll has coached the Wheelersburg High School Soccer Team for 28 years. He served as the Southeastern Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches’ Association District President for 16 years. He served 18 years as Treasurer and six years as Vice President of the Southeastern Soccer Coaches’ Association. Some years he combined two positions. He has served as voter in the Coaches’ State Poll for more than twenty years and was a voting member of the OSSCA state board from 1995 to 2010. Currently Coach Boll’s coaching record is 386-90-47 placing him, at the present time, sixth in state history.


Over his career, Coach Paul Boll has coached 25 all-Ohio players and 15 District Players of the Year. Seven of those players were also chosen to the American Regional Team on the national level. His teams have won a sectional title 22 years and have won seven District Titles and were Regional Runners-up in 1994.
