Kids’ Events Announced

American Girl Ornament

Children are invited to the New Boston library location to make their own ornament featuring an American Girl character December 16 at 4pm.

Family Fun Night

Everyone is invited to the Youth Services Department of the Portsmouth Public Library for this fun family program. Join us December 17 at 6pm at the Portsmouth library location. We are excited to see Santa again this year as he will be here to take pictures with the children and hear all about what they want for Christmas. Holiday Family Storytime- December 16 at 11am at New Boston

Tail Waggin’ Tutors

Certified Therapy Dogs from the Southern Ohio All Breed Dog Club (and their owners) will be at various library locations. The dogs will be available to listen to any young reader wishing to practice their skills.

At Lucasville-Fridays from 3-5pm and the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month

Portsmouth- 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month from 2-4pm

Upcoming Adult/Teen Activities Announced

Holiday Wreath Showing

The A.R.T. Gallery will be displaying holiday wreaths made from locals in Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia. You must sign up your wreath in advance by calling 354-5688 or visiting the Reference Desk at the Main Branch.

Pieces and Patches Quilting

A local quilting group will be meeting at the Lucasville Branch Library at 6pm the first and third Mondays each month. Patrons are encouraged to bring their quilting supplies and share ideas as you practice the art of quilting. Everyone is welcome, beginners and experts alike. Call 259-6119 for more information.


The Portsmouth Public Library will be hosting its Yoga group at 10am in the Copley Meeting Room on Tuesday, December 17.

Lego Club

Join PPL’s Lego Club! PPL will provide a theme and Legos. This program is designed for ages 12 and up, but family participation is welcome. Join us December 17 at 3pm. For more information on Lego Club call 740-354-5688 ext: 0.

Poetry Group

PPL is offering a group for those who like poetry. If you like to write, share or just want to learn more about poetry, this group is for you! Join us at the Portsmouth location December 17 from 5:30-6:30pm. Open to ages 16 and up, pre-registration is required.

Scrapbook Group

The South Webster library will be hosting a Scrapbook group December 17 at 5:30pm.

Blast From the Past Movie

A classic movie will be shown at the New Boston library at 3pm December 19.

Warm Up America

A group of local knitters will be meeting in the Copley Meeting Room of the Portsmouth library location at 10am on Saturday, December 21 to make items to be donated to local families in need.

Handmade Holiday

Friday, December 20th at 3:30 p.m.: Come join us to make cute holiday ornaments out of recycled books! It’s completely free! You must sign up in advance by calling 354-5688 or visiting the Reference Desk at the Main Branch.

Monthly Media Trivia

Every month PPL offers a new media themed trivia. Fill out a trivia each month to be entered in to win the corresponding “books into movies” prize!

Book Sale Drawing

In December, win a recycled book craft. Each time you purchase any item from the daily book sale, your name will be entered into a drawing.

Digital DIY

Visit to learn how to make a different recycled book craft every month.

The Information Technology Department of the Portsmouth Public Library will be offering a variety of computer classes this week. The schedule is as follows.
