The Urbana Ponderosa Steakhouse franchise has closed its doors after years of low profits and climbing costs, according to Clancy’s Inc. President Perry Fogelsong.
He said his family’s business has operated the restaurant since its opening in 1988 and employs about 35 part-time workers there.
“It’s too bad,” Fogelsong said Tuesday. “We appreciate the patronage that Urbana has given us over the years.”
He said the decision to close was made about a month ago and he let Ponderosa’s corporate center know it would be shuttered. He said he hopes to get another business in the building soon.
A sign on the door encourages those interested in leasing or buying the building to contact Kelly Gray, Equity Inc., at (937) 470-3002.
The business has taken “unsustainable losses” for “quite some time,” he said.
Ponderosa is the latest in a string of recent Urbana business closures; Big Lots will be shuttered this winter and the Urbana Chakeres Theatre ceased operations in early October.
The sign on the door says those with questions should call (317) 773-3284, ext. 225.
