The Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities (SCBDD) recently received confirmation of achieving a three-year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Accreditation is a sign of excellence that sets an organization apart for providers and individuals seeking quality in their choice of services.
“This is a substantial achievement,” said Jim Krumer, SCBDD superintendent. “This means that we are providing the highest quality of services to our community.”
CARF is an international accreditation service that focuses on health and human service providers’ quality results. Achieving accreditation means assurance to individuals, their families and the public that an organization is continually focusing on providing the highest quality of services. SCBDD has received a three-year accreditation for Employment Supports, Job Development and Transition Services.
“We began this process to see if what we were doing was in line with the standards set forth by CARF,” Krumer explained, “Going through CARF Accreditation requires looking at our procedures, our services and our own processes. We are very honored to know that we are going in the right direction.”
SCBDD received a one-year accreditation in 2012 and was recently granted a three-year accreditation. SCBDD has implemented an on-going quality assurance process to maintain and exceed CARF’s standards for all programs and will seek accreditation for more programing over the next few years.
“This isn’t a one-time deal,” Krumer said, “We plan to continue to focus these high standards and use process improvement techniques to hopefully begin setting forth some best practice models for the rest of the state. I am very proud
of the staff and all the hard work they continue to put in on making us one of the best organizations for those we serve.”
“This achievement is an indication of your organization’s dedication and commitment to improving the quality of the lives of the persons served. Services, personnel and documentation clearly indication an established patter of practice excellence,” said Brian Boon, president and CEO of CARF International.
Boon also commented that CARF will recognize the accomplishments of SCBDD on a nationwide database.
“We commend you on your commitment and consistent efforts to improve the quality of your services,” he said.
