With a bright attitude and creative thinking, the new Co-Directors of the Southern Ohio Museum are ready to enlighten the community with the unveiling of several new attractions. Mark Chepp and Charlotte Gordon, are a husband and wife team from Springfield, Ohio, who not only have executive directorship experience, but are both accomplished artists.
“What many people don’t realize is that the Southern Ohio Museum is one of the most respected museums in the state of Ohio,” said Gordon. “It may not be the largest, but it is certainly well recognized. I had a show there with some of my work just last year.”
Both Chepp and Gordon commented that because of the reputation of the museum and the community, it didn’t take long to decide that this is where they wanted to be.
“There is such a rich history here,” said Gordon. “Our goal is to highlight and share this rich, artistic history and move to the next level using technology.”
Chepp said the museum has created a new website and a quarterly newsletter to keep the community abreast of all the programs and services available.
“Next year will be 35 years for the museum. We are already making plans and getting geared up for a great celebration,” said Chepp. “We have partnered with the Portsmouth Brewing Company and have issued a contest. Brew Master Emily Uldrich of the Portsmouth Brewing Company is mixing up a special, brown ale to celebrate Southern Ohio Museum and Cultural Center’s 35th Anniversary. But we need a name.”
Chepp explained that anyone can participate in naming the new brew by simply sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with your beer name selection. Please include your name and phone number in order to be entered.
“Individuals can enter as many times as they’d like and the winner will be announced in January, 2014 and will be presented with a $150 gift certificate to the Portsmouth Brewing Company.
Chepp and Gordon shared several upcoming events that will be taking place at the museum an can be found on their new website at www.somacc.com.
