The South Central Ohio Educational Service Center’s Gifted Services Department and the Southern Ohio Museum have partnered to host a unique Artist-In-Residency program for the 2013-2014 school year. The residency will take its inspiration from the Museum’s “Fast Forward to the Renaissance” exhibition that is currently on display. This residency is being made possible by sponsorship of the Ohio Arts Council, Portsmouth Rotary Club, Scioto Foundation, and SOMC.
Cincinnati Artist-in-Residence, Debbie Brod, will be incorporating the talents of many different student groups throughout the Scioto County area to create a permanent installation sculpture for the Cirque d’Art Theatre. These groups include Glenwood High School art students (as the Core Group), along with high school art students from eight other school districts (as Peripheral Groups).
Ms. Brod will meet with Core Group students at the Museum on Monday, October 28, and then each morning on a daily basis for the duration of the residency. Each of the Peripheral Groups will come to the Museum for an all-day learning experience consisting of a Museum tour, a tour of the Cirque d’Art Theatre, and two hours of studio work with Ms. Brod in the afternoon. All of the artwork created by the students will be assembled at the Cirque d’Art Theatre to create a permanent installation sculpture on the walls in the main studio area.
Ms. Brod will be presenting a one hour smARTtalk at the Museum on Friday, November 1, beginning at noon and guests may bring a brown bag lunch with them if they like. There will also be an Opening Celebration at the Cirque d’Art Theatre on Friday, November 15, beginning at 6:00pm. Both events are free and the public is invited to attend.
