As a part of the premiere of the documentary, Beyond These Walls, on Nov. 2 a fund raising reception has been scheduled for Portsmouth Murals Inc., highlighting some of the films creators.
Beyond These Walls, highlights the Portsmouth Murals and the development behind them.
The meet and greet dinner reception will take place at the Sodexo Ballroom on campus of Shawnee State University from 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. with the premiere at 8 p.m.
Tickets for the reception are $50 and include, special reserved seating for the premiere, dinner reception and two complimentary drink or adult beverage tickets. Only 150 tickets will be sold.
Anticipated to be in attendance is muralist Robert Dafford who has painted over 400 murals in the United States and worldwide. According to promotional material for the event, Daffords most famous murals is the “Clarinet” in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Mikael Jacobson, composer for the film lives in Los Angeles, He has scored music for Lion’s Gate Films, Fox Entertainment, ESPN and Lorentz Productions.
Producer, Dr. John Lorentz, Professor of History Emeritus at Shawnee State University and is the principal scholar and producer for Lorentz Productions films ‘River Voices’ and ‘Beyond these Walls.”
Also anticipated to be in attendance is Director/Editor/Cinematographer Nathan Lorentz. He specializes in documentary film making. He has worked as a consultant and cinematographer on several short films including documentaries on the Peace Corp. and education in Rwanda.
John Lorentz said the film is about building community through public art.
“It tells a story in which the major theme is the role that public art has to play in developing a sense of community. We’re really looking at is the interaction of the community and viewers with the wall,” John Lorentz said. “Part of that story is how did this (Portsmouth Murals) come into creation. How do you take a blank piece of concrete and turn it into something beautiful that people react to and are connected to in someway.”
Tickets to the premier are free and can be obtained at the McKinley Box Office.
