POINT PLEASANT —The floor is scheduled to be poured next week and the front windows have been removed as renovations continue on what will be the new Mason County Sheriff’s Department.
The most recent construction meeting was attended last week by Jerry Jones and Todd Lancaster from contractor Lombardi Development, Greg Belcher and Tom Cloer from engineering firm Chapman Technical Group, and County Administrator John Gerlach.
Jones and Lancaster reported on the work completed since the last update as: installation of the geo-foam being approximately 99 percent complete while installation of the vapor barrier and welded wire fabric is also approximately 99 percent complete; the under slab plumbing rough-in at the ground floor is complete; installation of the sprinkler system is ongoing on the second and third floor; miscellaneous electrical installation is ongoing on the second and third floor.
At the time of the meeting last week, the following proposed scheduled for the next two weeks was presented: install concrete floor slab at the first floor; complete installation of geo-foam at the elevator lobby; complete installation of vapor barrier and welded wire fabric at the elevator lobby; install concrete floor slab for the elevator lobby; finish the exterior French drain installation and back fill around the elevator addition foundation; start masonry installation on the elevator addition; continue with sprinkler system installation, pressure test sprinkler installation.
Steve Gardner with the City of Point Pleasant had a discussion with Belcher prior to the meeting about the need for a new water service tap for the building. Gardner would like to tap the existing 16” line to provide the 6” connection that Lombardi will need to install the new water service to the building. Gardner did not expect the city’s invoice for this work to exceed $4,000.
Jones discussed the letter that the Mason County Commission received from the W.Va. Division of Labor relating to a “prevailing wage investigation of Lombardi Development Co., Inc., for work performed at the Mason County Sheriff’s Department Building project.” Jones explained representatives with Lombardi met with the labor department last week to discuss the issues which are reported to be a discrepancy in the way Lombardi classifies employees as they perform different tasks throughout the day. Cloer asked Jones and Lombardi Development to please keep the Mason County Commission and Chapman Technical Group informed, in writing, regarding any developments or the outcome of discussion between Lombardi and the W.Va. Division of Labor.
Gerlach inquired when traffic will be permitted to flow behind the building with Jones and Lancaster noting the underground work around the elevator addition would need to be completed before back fill could occur and once that was complete the alley would need to remain closed while masonry installation was under way. This could take a month to complete. Gerlach then asked when parking lot paving would occur but this is also dependant on underground installations and after all heavy deliveries are made.
The next regularly scheduled meeting on the project is 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 10.
