POINT PLEASANT — The numbers are in for Saturday evening’s Relay for Life at Point Pleasant High School. Twelve teams, 133 participants all banded together to raise a total of $35,588.13.
The following teams took part in Saturday’s Relay: Charlie’s Angels with team captain Wendy L. Lilly and 16 team members raised $19,646.00; Sacred Hearts with team captain Judy Browning, and 35 team members, raised $8,282.50; PVH Home Health & Hospice, “The Home Team,” with team captain Valerie Clay, and 15 team members, raised $1,600.79; Bellemead Bellringers with team captain Sherry L Wallbrown, and one other team member, raised $1,416.07; Valley Fire Department with team captain David Rodgers, and two team members, raised $1,222.60.
Farmers Bank Piggy Bankers with team captain Brenda K Darst, and 10 team members, raised $834.00; Leon Elementary School with team captain Rachel L Payne, and 10 team members, raised $680; Angels 4 Miracles with team captain Barbara Franklin, and six team members, raised $440; Peoples Bank with team captain Holly Siders, and one other team member, raised $350; Lauren’s Friends for a Cure with team captain Lauren Lanier and one other team member, raised $190; Point Pleasant Junior Honor Society with team captain William R Tibbetts and three team members raised $110.00; City National Bank with team captain Missi Scarberry and six team members, raised $10.00.
Jennifer Davis, senior community manager for the American Cancer Society, said that money raised at Relay helps the American Cancer Society continue to help make life easier for people who have been diagnosed with cancer, continue to look for cures and fight back against the disease.
“Relay provides the ACS with money to support vital, cutting-edge cancer research; provides cancer patients with free wigs, transportation to treatment, free lodging at our Hope Lodge, and publishes lifesaving literature on cancer prevention, detection and tobacco control; and develops a new generation of medicines that help those battling cancer.”
Davis said that she is looking for individuals, families, community groups, corporations and small businesses to commit their Relay For Life team participation.
