Area business owner and investor Don Hadsell has announced intentions to run for Scioto County Commissioner in 2014, he has also indicated he will be seeking the Scioto County Democrat Party appointment when a commissioner’s seat becomes open next year.
Earlier this year, longtime Scioto County Commissioner Skip Riffe, announced his intention to retire at the end of the year with one year left on his term. Once retired the Scioto County Democrat Party can appoint someone to fill Riffe’s unexpired term.
When asked why he wants to run for commissioner, Hadsell said, “development, development, development and jobs for southern Ohio.”
Hadsell said as a resident of Scioto County he has developed a love for the area and desire to see it prosper.
“I’ve invested a ton of money into this area, in a effort to bring jobs here and that’s what I’m running on, jobs,” Hadsell said. “I do not need this job, I just want the job for that reason. I’ve seen what’s going on in Lawrence County with their industrial park and I’ve got some plans here for industrial parks.”
In a recent example of development Hadsell said, he was able to convince Infra-Metals to locate in New Boston.
“I saw what they had not seen, I was able to put it all together for them and they are here now, creating jobs,” Hadsell said. “We’ve had 30-40 people all summer building their facility and they have hired 25 local people to work there with more to come.”
Hadsell said over the years he has been able to work well with people from both political parties to get the job done and work towards bringing development to the area.
“When my ideas get out there it will be up to the voters of Scioto County to elect me. If they chose someone from the other side that’s the will of the voter. I don’t hold animosity towards anyone. I think I am the guy that can help Scioto County moving forward,” Hadsell said.
He said his campaign is getting off the ground and more information will come forward as things progress.
