Midstate Services, LLC, has reportedly completed its purchase of the large industrial building on Grace Street in New Boston, which previously was home to SFI of Ohio.
Midstate will reportedly be offering warehouse and consignment services to commercial and industrial customers. The warehouse will storage and inventory key parts or components for those customers, and will provide a logistic service center for the movement of those parts or components onto other facility locations.
Midstate’s warehousing operation will only occupy a small portion of the large building. Midstate intends to offer the western portion of the building for lease.
Before Midstate moved in, Southern Fabrications Industries (SFI) took control of assets at the former M&J Industries building in New Boston in December 2007 and made it SFI of Ohio in 2008 with 125 employees. In spring 2010, the company hired even more to expand its roster to 180 employees. The 125,000 square foot SFI plant had fabrication contracts with the U.S. military and private-sector customers, including John Deere, FedEx, UPS, Grove, Caterpillar, Black & Decker, General Motors, Kubota, and others. SFI also has plants in Memphis, Tenn., and Conway, Ark.
The company announced in May 2012 they were closing the New Boston facility.
With its high ceilings and bridge cranes, Midstate said the building is an ideal location for a metal fabricator — especially given its proximity to the new Infra-Metals steel warehouse in New Boston.
