The 67th annual Greenup County Fair convened Aug. 24-31 and was well attended each day.
Jay Sizemore, President of the Greenup County Fair board said the fair has continued to be a success this year.
“So far, the fair has been wonderful, considering the economy, we have no complaints, everything has ran smoothly,” Sizemore said.
Casey’s Carnivals has provided the amusement rides for fair-goers to enjoy.
“We have used Casey’s for the last 12 years, and they are really good, that is why we will not switch up. I have checked a lot of other carnivals out, and they just don’t come up to the standards as Casey’s, ” Sizemore said.
Sizemore said the number of vendors has reached its maximum capacity.
“We have maxed out on everything, we don’t really have anything else we could put in here, and really we do that almost every year. The vendors that are here pre-pay for their spots for next year, so they don’t lose them,” Sizemore said.
The Greenup County Fair included a host of activities and entertainment, which began Aug. 24.
“We opened on Aug. 24, with a Demo-Derby, as a kick-off to the Fair, and then the beauty contest took place on Aug. 27,” Sizemore said.
The winner of the Miss Greenup County Fair beauty contest was MacKenzie Speaks of Raceland High School.
Sizemore said fair attendance has been favorable this year.
“To my understanding, from a lot of other folks from some other county fairs, a lot of their numbers were down this year, but so far we haven’t been,” Sizemore said.
He said they are anticipating great results from the livestock sales.
“We are waiting for our livestock sales from Saturday, that will be the tell, tell sign of what the economy is like. We are probably the biggest livestock from Lexington up to this way,” Sizemore said.
Sizemore said all of the proceeds from livestock sales goes towards the youth.
“We usually do about $130,000 or more in livestock sales, so we are hoping to get close to that this year,” Sizemore said.
