The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC), called Thursday a big day for Ohio businesses.
According to released information, “actions today (Thursday) by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation will set in motion the distribution of $1 billion in cash rebates to Ohio employers, many of which can now also plan for additional savings through decreasing overall base-rates.”
In Scioto County, 42 public employers are estimated to receive a combined total $810,320.
Included on the list are 15 schools and libraries receiving a total of $355,590 (Portsmouth City School getting the most with $74,610, and Sciotoville Elementary Academy seeing the least with $1,670), the city of Portsmouth receiving $214,460, Scioto County receiving $132,380, 17 townships receiving a total of $54,940 (Green Township getting the most with $15,270 and Union Township seeing the least with $350), New Boston receiving $25,610, three special districts (Northwest Regional Water District, Scioto Ambulance District, and Scioto County Regional Water Authority) receiving a total of $25,110, and three contract coverages (Otway Village, Rarden Village, and South Webster/Bloom Township Fire) receiving a total of $2,030.
According to information from BWC, “the amount each public employer will receive equals approximately 56 percent of their annual workers’ compensation insurance premium. That premium is based on the size of their payroll and is modified by factors such as the type of work their employees do and claims experience.”
“The Board’s actions in providing a rebate and reducing base rates makes it a banner day for business in Ohio,” Steve Buehrer, BWC Administrator/CEO said in a released statement. “We’re pleased prudent management and smart investing at BWC are paying off, literally, for hundreds of thousands of Ohio’s private and public employers.”
According to BWC officials those receiving rebates should expect to see something at the end of June or early July.
