Shawnee State University is offering the Associate Technician Technology Training, a pre-employment training program for the American Centrifuge Facility, a Division of USEC Inc. The classes will be held on Wednesdays, Jan. 16 to May 8, 2013, 5:30-9:30 p.m. at the OSU South Centers at Piketon, Endeavor Center.
This is Component 2 of a three-component course that qualifies a person to apply for an Associate Technician position at the American Centrifuge Facility. The Technology Training course consists of two parts, Electrical and Control, and Fluids and Heat Transfer. In the first part, students will be competent in the fundamental principles of DC and AC electricity, motors, generators, transformers and power distribution.
The second part consists of properties of fluids, fluid flow, fluid mechanics and application of basic thermodynamics. The cost of the Technology Training (Component 2) is $935 per person, which includes instructional fee, text, and instructional materials.
Component 1 of a three-component course that qualifies a person to apply for an Associate Technician position at the American Centrifuge Facility is the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council Training (MSSC) that blends classroom instruction and industrial lab experience. At the end of this training, students will be prepared to take the MSSC certification exams for national certification for skill standards in manufacturing processes, maintenance awareness, quality and safety.
The cost of the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council Training (Component 1) is $1,875 per person, which includes the instructional fee, instructional materials, WorkKeys, MSSC Registration and national certification exam fee.
Component 3 is Physical Science that teaches the fundamental concepts of chemistry including atomic structure, compound formation, properties and reactions in solutions, acids and bases and chemical equations. The registration deadline is Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013.
The program is offered in partnership by the Ohio South Consortium for Training and Education. The Physical Science course is held on Thursdays, Jan. 17 through April 25, 2013, and is offered by Ohio University Chillicothe. The cost of the Physical Science Training (Component 3) is $935 per person, which includes instructional fee, text, and instructional materials.
These courses may be taken together or individually. It is generally recommended that Components 2 and 3 be taken at the same time.
